The purpose of the Swamp Recovery Subcommittee is to hold an annual South Broward Area camping event. Swamp Recovery is a newcomer event and is a wonderful opportunity to be part of an area’s annual event honoring the traditions. Our primary purpose is to carry the message to the addict who still suffers, have fun, as well as generate funds for the South Broward Area. No addict is ever turned away. The Swamp Recovery Subcommittee meets the first Sunday of every month at 10:00 AM at Lake Wolf Park 5400 SW 76th Avenue Davie, Fl 33314
A History of Swamp Recovery
In February 1984, an addict named Jack formed Clean Camper’s campout to show newcomers that we could have fun and camp without getting high. The campout was held at Fish Eating Creek and sponsored by the Midnight Recovery Group. In December 1985, Clean Camper’s name was changed to Swamp Recovery.
Swamp Recovery has changed hands throughout the years between different groups in the Gold Coast and South Broward areas, as well as the Gold Coast Area Activities Subcommittee.
Some of the groups that have sponsored it are Midnight Recovery, California Group, The Beach Meeting, Choices in Recovery, Another Choice Meeting, Sunday Serenity Group, Real Deal, Wind and Tides of Change, Welcome Home Group, New Attitudes, and the Journey Begins.
The South Broward Area adopted it in 2018, and it is now called the Swamp Recovery Spiritual Retreat.
